In case anyone asks, zenphoto is a piece of sh*t script! It keeps giving me blank pages for no reason. Just like that. I did not do anything to it and it crashed.
So I spent a few hours moving a lot of my pics to photobucket. I was paying for 25Gb of space and using only 300mb. And I do understand why services like PhotoBucket are making money. Because people want to put their pics there and do not worry about the script being hacked (happened two times with zenphoto) or something going wrong.
And 25$ a year is a good deal.
You did not bother to use our troubleshooting guide or support forum regarding your issues, did you?
yes, i did. the script still sucks.
Well, I have another opinion and lots of our user, too. So what did you report and what where the answers? Please point to the forum thread you posted to if you are willing to discuss that a more mature way than “sucks” and “piece of sh*t”.
well, after digging in ur forum for a few hours and have some php dudes look at the script, i bailed on the idea that is my fault for doing nothing and breaking the script. at which point i let go and decided to w8 for another zenphoto release.
thanx for the good intentions. i wish they were enough.
You should have just asked on the forum actively… We can’t foresee and test every variance in server configuration out there.
and a bonus to the suckiness, the images in the cache changed over the last update, now every thumbnail i user in the last year on my other blog is broken. gg you.
Looks like ZenPhoto is all-together gone now (or just temporarily down?). I’ve been using it for years, and have been satisfied with ZenPhoto’s ease of use and simplistic design.
I started using Zenphoto a couple of months ago. The other night I suddenly couldn’t access the admin pages. I’ve tried upgrading, reinstalling, rerunning setup, and deleting the zp_administrators table (as recommended in their troubleshooting guide). Nothing works.
After all the time I invested in uploading photos and customizing a theme, the program just breaks? And even a reinstall won’t fix it? What a huge waste of my time and energy.
it will, for a shot period of time. but expect it anytime.
No, you are absolutely right. Zenphoto sucks. I like how their recent hacking and security issues don’t seem to phase them. Nor does it bother them to tell the people facing problems STARTED BY THEM that their best option is to delete and uninstall everything and start over. Well I’m going to follow their advice halfway – UNINSTALL.
People should be aware that the support is iffy at best and the flexibility of the gallery is pretty lame. If you’re interested in using WordPress, the gallery plugins they have are better than Zenphoto. Really any time there are typos all over a site and most of their content hasn’t been updated since 2008, you can assume that you’re about to venture into the world of shoddy crap.
i started using cleaner gallery with the blog, so everything is all good so far.
I used to love ZenPhoto. As the name implied, it was very zen-like – very minimalist, appealing to the eye and lacked the bloat that most other galleries were made up of. Now ZenPhoto has become bloated crap. My install was hacked a few times over the years (and I’d been a fan/user of ZenPhoto since 2008ish). It was a hacked again a couple weeks ago (and I’ll totally take the blame as I didn’t keep my install up-to-date all the time). I installed the latest version today and geez… it’s really just become bloated and not at all simple to use. After mucking around for an hour, I’m giving up. I tried to simply rename my gallery and the name won’t save. Now I can’t even apply a gallery name. I was okay with that. Moved on and tried to rename an album. Same thing. I type in an album name, click ‘update’ and the album name becomes blank. I’m not going to spend time searching forum postings on something as trivial as this. Lord knows I’ll find a fix and then turn around and find something else broken within ZenPhoto.
RIP ZenPhoto. Guess I’ll go find some WordPress plugin that works.
