Why Facebook wants to host the news

26 March 2015

NYT reports. There are two explanations, both of them simple as pie: As I have said before, people need stuff to consume, that is why all sorts of people buy all kinds of newspapers, in an attempt to keep them afloat. All of them remember the time the internet was dry of information: no Wikipedia, […]

Blog: traffic spike? Enable Cache and CDN fast!

18 October 2014

So, you wrote an article that makes its way fast through social media, huh? That is great, but your server is getting tired and you receive an email from the hosting company that says your shared plan does not cover this type of thing and you need to upgrade. What they don’t tell you is […]

Romanian blogosphere – where are we now

13 July 2013

I got a lot of questions about this: what happened last year, how do you see things. where do we go from here? There are a few things that happened in the last 12 months worth mentioning: Some bloggers realized I am not a fool who wishes death on them (as the song goes), but […]

Amazon CloudFront costs

12 February 2013

I’ve switched to CloudFront as a CDN provider for my main blog. The stats: 180.000 monthly unique visitors, 10-12.000 daily unique visitors, 93 Gb traffic for the regular hosting (html and blog images), 30 Gb from CloudFront (just the CSS and the theme images). Final costs: 13.86$.

Blog: subtle irony

28 February 2012

I’ve remembered one argument some bloggers have when they speak about me: he’s a nobody, meaning nobody ever heard about me, i have just a small audience that does not matter in the real world. Partially true.  There are 5 to 7 million Romanians online every month on the internet and only 120.000 visited my […]

Facebook traffic: "share" vs. "like"

12 August 2011

People click more often on "like" than on "share", it’s a known fact. It’s just one click. Share, on the other hand, it’s more complicated. You have to choose a thumbnail, write a short description… way too much work. On traffic terms, share beats like‘s ass. On various test conducted on my other blog, liking […]

Don’t forget why you became successful

8 July 2011

So you’ve become more successful that you thought possible. People recognize your skills and put you up on the good list. But you forgot how you got there. And for months now your blog had that traffic because you wrote good articles some years ago. But how long will those visitors keep coming back?

Spam Google like a pro using… Google

14 November 2010

Go to Google Trends. Pick a topic. Write about it using the keyword in the title. Bam, you’re done! You just wait for that big traffic to come!!! Does this work? Yes, of course, but imagine you are competing on that same traffic with all the big boys. Can you rank on top of CNN.com? […]

tired of blogs?

4 April 2010

I’ve read two articles in the last weeks asking the question if blogs are on their way out. They are not. But it’s getting harder for the new blog reader to find good blogs to read. The blogosphere got crowded in the last two years with a lot of so-called experts, people with unclear expertise […]

What are you reading about Romanian internet?

17 November 2009

When you disrupt dishonest businesses, you expect to read a lot of dirt about yourself. That includes that your traffic is not what you say it is, that you blackmail people, that you lie for a living. I am used to this, because i hear it every day, from different people. Bogdan Gavrila is such […]
