Sony got it right with its new NEX mirrorless line

6 July 2013

After years of releasing mirrorless cameras without a clear direction, Sony got it right: they put a APS-C sensor on all of their mirrorless line. Being disappointed by the Sony A57 DSLT, I have bought a NEX3N with a 16-55mm kit lens, that sells for about 400 euros. It does not shoot 12fps or nothing […]

Value in conferences

2 July 2013

You go at 20 conferences a year. You have 3-4 workshops a year. When do you have time to experiment and find new ideas to speak of at these events? Do you have new ideas and experiences to tell? Or do you just rewrite what the big boys have found out a year ago and […]

2013 in Romanian Social Media

1 July 2013

The year started really good. There are a few directions I have noticed going on: Companies moving away from the “like and share” model, as they find out likes do not translate into sales. The smart ones (Coca Cola, Milka) started experimenting with content created for social media. Companies still chasing the like and share […]

I do need to stop writing about social media

28 June 2013

I think everybody and their dog knows you need to do something in social media. Have a facebook page, a twitter account, talk to clients and friends, and more. And it’s getting old. I want to move past “we need to do something” conversation and move into “we need better campaings so we can get […]

Feedly and Netvibes realize how complicated Reader was

27 June 2013

I’ve been using both of them. Both suck mildly. Netvibes updates slowly and displays even slower. Feedly has that stupid idea of displaying a big story, even if I selected magazine view. And displays again read items. And this comes from lack of servers.

What does “direct access” mean

9 June 2013

You’ve read all the incoherent babble about PRISM and how the American Government has access to data from Google, Yahoo, Facebook and others. Of course, everybody denies it, saying they do not provide direct access to their servers. Of course. What good would do to the government if they had root on 10, 100, 100.000 […]

Wearable tech’s first problem…

30 May 2013

So, you got yourself a Google Glass or an Apple iWatch? Nice. Hey, watch out, you might scrach or hit your watch! Use the other hand! Don’t move your head too much, your Glass might fall down. And that’s the problem. Smartphones have bumpers and cases, and even a thin MyCover can protect your phone. […]

Tumblr has a lot of stolen content

19 May 2013

Before YouTube was bought by Google, people usually left them alone, allowing them to tons of stolen copyrighted videos. Soon after, it was raining with lawsuits. Now, things have calmed down, but there were a few dark years for YouTube’s lawyers. Same thing with Tumblr, which hosts lots of pr0n and lots of stolen content. […]

Photography: low-light and smartphones

18 May 2013

Now that the megapixel race is sort of passé, DSLR and smartphone makers have found new grounds to battle: low light. The one with the best picture in low light wins! Nikon launched D3200 with 24 useless megapixels. Samsung and Sony have 13 megapixel cameras on their smartphone. The 50 megapixel DSLR is near. All […]

One reason almost every service big companies clone are bad

17 May 2013

Usually, when a startup builds a service/app/site/whatever, their goal is to make it the best ever, so that it attracts users and make money. The big company launches a service with money in mind at every step, the user being third or lower on the list. Google’s Evernote clone and Microsoft’s Bing are just two […]
